Newcastle United transfers: Bruno Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle this summer - with Arsenal interested.
Newcastle United believe they are in a strong position when it comes to keeping Bruno Guimaraes at the club this summer, thanks to a clause in the player’s contract.
The Brazilian has been the subject of a transfer approach from Arsenal in the past week, but Newcastle have maintained a firm stance that their captain is not for sale.
That stance is strengthened by the fact they hold a one-year extension option in Guimaraes' contract, The Gazette can reveal.
Guimaraes' current deal runs until June 2028, which has led to concerns over his long-term future as he enters the final two years of his contract.
Newcastle remain relaxed about his contract situation, with the option effectively giving them the ability to keep the 28-year-old tied down until 2029.
Still, as Newcastle found out last year with Alexander Isak, having three years remaining on a contract means little if the player himself is determined to leave.

Bruno Guimaraes considering his future at NUFC
The Gazette understands Guimaraes is seriously considering his future at Newcastle this summer and would be open to leaving the club for the first time since arriving from Lyon in 2022.
But Newcastle remain in a strong negotiating position should any club make a move for their captain.
Claims from Brazil that Guimaraes has a £60million release clause have been denied by club sources.
The midfielder previously had a £100million release clause in his contract, but that could only be activated during the summer of 2024.
There are currently no talks taking place over a new deal for Guimaraes, although the prospect of fresh negotiations has not been ruled out.
Lyon sell-on clause
Guimaraes' former club Lyon also hold a 20 per cent sell-on clause should Newcastle decide to sell the player.
The midfielder joined Newcastle in January 2022 in a deal worth up to £40million and has since gone on to make 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.
Guimaraes also became the first Newcastle captain in 70 years to lift a trophy at Wembley when he led the club to Carabao Cup success in 2025.
But since then, the club have endured a difficult period, with the sales of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, coupled with a 12th-place finish, raising fresh questions over the futures of several key players, including Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
