Liverpool have been handed potentially a major blow to their chances of signing Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola.

The Reds have been frequently credited with an interest in signing the France international during the summer transfer window.

Andoni Iraola will be busy preparing for his first season as Liverpool’s new manager following confirmation of his appointment earlier this month, where he replaced Arne Slot in the dugout.

Barcola has been linked with Liverpool for some time, and the rumours about a potential deal ramped up following the recent update on Diomande’s preference to move to Paris.

A report in The Athletic has claimed, though, that PSG have no plans to sell Barcola, and have placed a valuation on the 23-year-old in excess of £116million - the same fee that Manchester City are reportedly paying to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

Barcola is under contract at PSG until the summer of 2028, and the report speculates that he is not currently willing to put pen to paper on an extension.

However, PSG are seemingly determined to keep Barcola at the Parc des Princes this summer, which would represent a potential blow to Liverpool as they look to strengthen their wide forward options.

Liverpool have been expected to have a busy summer transfer window for some time, particularly with the departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, all of whom have left as free agents.

RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande has been a key target for Liverpool this summer, with the Reds already having expressed a willingness to bid up to £86million for the Ivory Coast international.

However, reports over the weekend claimed that Diomande had expressed a preference to move to PSG, with the Champions League winners now emerging as the favourites to sign the talented 19-year-old.

A previous report from The Athletic claimed that Liverpool had identified alternatives to Diomande should a move for the Ivory Coast international prove unsuccessful.

Brighton star Yankuba Minteh, FC Koln’s Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo have all been mentioned as potential alternative options to Diomande for Liverpool, although there has yet to be any major update on any of the trio.

One signing has already been confirmed by Liverpool since Iraola’s arrival, with Victor Munoz completing a permanent move from Osasuna for a fee believed to be worth around £34.5million.
