Inter Milan have conceded that a deal to sign Curtis Jones is becoming increasingly unlikely due to Liverpool's valuation of the midfielder.

Jones is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield, with Liverpool willing to sell rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Inter first made their move for the 25 year old in January, when Liverpool firmly rejected their proposal to take the player on loan for the remainder of the season with an option to purchase. The Serie A giants have nonetheless maintained their pursuit, with negotiations between the two clubs taking place over recent weeks.

Liverpool turned down an offer of $29 million (£21.7m) from Inter, with the Reds valuing the midfielder at closer to $46M (£35m).

Inter director Piero Ausilio has now acknowledged that a resolution appears some way off.

"I've never denied that we like Curtis Jones," he said. "He has the qualities that could give us something extra. But there's a significant gap between our valuation and Liverpool's.

"Liverpool have every right to ask for what they believe is a fair price, and we have every right to decide whether that works for us or not. As things stand, I'd say it's very difficult."

Jones is understood to have no desire to join Nottingham Forest, who are in the market for a midfielder following Elliot Anderson's move to Manchester City.

Aston Villa and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the Liverpool midfielder throughout the transfer window.

Liverpool's focus remains on new additions following the departures of Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson,

Victor Munoz has already arrived but the Reds are set to face frustration in their attempts to sign Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola.
