Arsenal in Transfer Pursuit of Premier League&Brazil World Cup Star

Having won the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years and missing out on the Champions League trophy after a penalty shoot-out against PSG, it is fair to say that Arsenal are in the ascendency right now. They haven’t been in such a strong position for years – as such, they’re looking to strengthen their squad with some world-class talents.

According to a report from The Mirror, one player they have in their sights is Newcastle United and Brazil superstar Bruno Guimaraes. He isn’t their only midfield target – BBC Sport reports that they have not yet made an official move for the player – but he remains a target for Mikel Arteta’s men.

The Gunners are also in the hunt for Bournemouth midfield Alex Scott, but have seen their efforts come to naught thus far. The Cherries insist that he is ‘not for sale’ [via BBC Sport] – if they fail to sign him, they may well ramp up their efforts to secure a transfer for Guimaraes.

However, it isn’t quite so simple. It was thought that Newcastle had a release clause of £60 million embedded into Guimaraes’ existing contract, but a report from the Shields Gazette denies this.

Whatever the case, The Sun has claimed that the Toon are working on tying down the Brazilian international to a new deal. They state that it would cost them a total of £40 million to keep him at St. James’ Park – but given his importance to the squad, we’d suggest that he is worthy every penny of that eight-figure sum.

What would Bruno Guimares bring to Arsenal?

One of the best midfielders in the Premier League and perhaps one of the best central players in world football, Bruno Guimaraes is an absolutely phenomenal talent. An energetic dynamo with brilliant movement, passing and vision, he’s also no slouch on the defensive side of things.

It is very difficult to pick a flaw in his game. His only downside is his spotty injury record – which, to his credit, certainly isn’t his fault. This wouldn’t be too much of an issue for Arsenal, given the size of their squad and the depth of quality within it.

As we can through the stats we have provided, he is an excellent goalscorer as well as a creator. He hasn’t scored in the 2026 World Cup as of yet, but he has provided four assists in four games – he also found Gabriel Martinelli to bag the winning goal in Brazil’s thrilling last 32 game against Japan.

It is hard to see where he might fit into their midfield, though. Arsenal are already stacked in the middle of the park – it would be very difficult to leave out one of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Martin Odegaard.
