Liverpool star ‘very close’ to exit – Talks with agent, fee unknown as yet

Galatasaray’s talks with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk are progressing well and there is growing confidence that a deal could happen this summer.

Fotomaç report that ‘Van Dijk is very close’ for the Turkish side. They are planning to sign him as a replacement for Davinson Sanchez.

Van Dijk incoming

According to the outlet, the Turkish side are preparing to sell Sanchez this summer and could sign ‘world-renowned’ Virgil van Dijk as his replacement.

The 34-year-old only has a year left on his deal with Liverpool and could leave them for Galatasaray this summer. The Lions have already held preliminary talks with the Dutch’s defender’s agents. And, discussions with the Liverpool captain are said to be ‘progressing well’.

That is all the outlet offers on the matter for now. But this report is the latest from Türkiye demonstrating confidence that Galatasaray can sign Van Dijk this summer.

A report at the beginning of May kicked things off, insisting that they would match the 34-year-old’s €11m a year wages if they signed him. That, it seems had at least turned the Dutch defender’s head.

Sport Witness then covered a report a week later insisting that negotiations were ongoing to make a deal happen this summer.

Earlier this month, a new report then stated that Galatasaray were expected to make their move sooner rather than later. Van Dijk’s participation at the World Cup with the Netherlands, though, was obvious something of a hindrance.

Now that the Netherlands are out, that particular obstacle is out of the way. It would not be surprising to see Galatasaray accelerating their efforts to get a deal done.

There are still questions over the viability of it, though. Will Liverpool want to see their captain leave this summer, even if he is in the final year of his deal? It seems unlikely. But in Türkiye at least, there’s confidence over the potential move.
