Several former Liverpool academy players have been finding new homes and fresh opportunities in the lower English League this summer.
Derby County moved quickly to secure a permanent deal for ex-Reds midfielder Bobby Clarke. Liverpool earned £1m from the deal thanks to a sell-on clause in the final £6m amount.
Recent weeks have already seen Accrington Stanley snap up former Liverpool U21 captain Joe Anderson.
Now, that trend continues. Stanley have officially confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Louie Moulden, a former Liverpool youth player.
The 22-year-old joins from Norwich City on a season-long loan.
Moulden never made a senior appearance for Liverpool, and also spent time as a academy player at the likes of Wolves and Crystal Palace.
Moulden said of the deal:
“I started playing when I was seven in various academies, I spent time at a whole host of National League North and South loans, along with the National League, and I played in League One most recently at Northampton Town.
“I am off the back of a couple of years inactivity, but I am raring to go – my family were keen for me to get back playing, my dad used to play for Accrington Stanley, and I had the experience of playing here on trial under John Coleman, so it got me excited.
“I was keen to get in somewhere quickly where I will play, I had a connection with Matt Gilks through my family, he came with high recommendations and, after speaking to him, I felt it was the right step.
“I am really keen to get out on the pitch, work with a good goalkeeping coach and a good group, it ticked a lot of boxes for me – I have got a good feel for the club.”
