Sandro Tonali’s future is once again up in the air, with the Newcastle midfielder at the centre of a Premier League tug‑of‑war this summer that could yet involve Liverpool.

Arsenal and Tottenham have been widely viewed as the leading candidates for his signature so far.

The Magpies’ window has already taken a hit, though, with Liverpool swooping in to hijack their move for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, triggering his release clause and confirming him as the Reds’ first signing of the summer after Newcastle believed they were in pole position.

According to claims in Italy, Spurs are prepared to go close to the €100 million mark to prise him away from St James’ Park.

Newcastle is understood to be demanding around that figure, aware that several top clubs are monitoring the situation and that they could cash in on one of their most valuable assets if the right offer arrives.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Liverpool are among the sides keeping a eye on developments, with the Reds having long tracked Tonali and seen him as a player whose profile fits the club’s model: still a good age at 26, proven in Serie A and the Premier League, and capable of anchoring midfield for years to come.

It’s claimed that the Magpies are hopefully of a bidding war to increase the final sale amount to potentially €120mil +

“Newcastle, however, does not intend to make discounts and aims to make a rich capital gain compared to the 65 million paid three years ago to the Rossoneri. Auction base 100 million but, given the expressions of interest from the other big names (Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United), the threshold of 120 could easily be crossed.”

The Italy international racked up 53 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side last season, managing three goals and seven assists in the process.
