Germany and the Netherlands have both been knocked out, with major implications for Liverpool’s squad. Florian Wirtz, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo are all expected to return to Anfield earlier than planned following their eliminations, with Liverpool set to monitor their recovery ahead of pre-season.

Liverpool have also moved quickly in the transfer market under new head coach Andoni Iraola. £34.5million signing Victor Munoz is already confirmed, while Jeremy Jacquet is poised to formally begin his career at the club.

There is also continued interest in several targets, including Yan Diomande, Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, and a number of wide options as the club explore attacking reinforcements.

Elsewhere, West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes was previously on Liverpool’s radar but is now set to join Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs winning the race after submitting the highest offer to West Ham.

According to The Athletic, the deal is worth a guaranteed £85million (€98m), with the 21-year-old opting for north London despite interest from several top clubs, including Manchester United.

For Man United, the transfer fee and salary demands ultimately rose beyond what they were willing to pay, leading the club to step away from the deal and shift focus to other targets after adopting a more patient approach in last summer’s window.

Fernandes was one of West Ham’s standout performers in a difficult 2025-26 season, making 36 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals and registering four assists. He still has four years remaining on his contract after joining from Southampton for around £38m in August 2025.

If completed, the move would make Fernandes Tottenham Hotspur’s fourth signing of the summer. Former Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson and Marco Senesi have already arrived as free agents, while Jan Paul van Hecke joined from Brighton for £52m.

He would join Spurs’ midfield group that includes Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, although Bergvall has reportedly informed the club of his desire to seek a new challenge.

Yves Bissouma will leave when his contract expires this month, while Joao Palhinha’s loan spell has ended without a permanent agreement.

Fernandes made his senior international debut against the United States in April 2026 but was later left out of Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad.

A switch to Spurs would mark his third English club in two years, having previously made 36 appearances for Southampton after arriving from Sporting CP in 2024. Southampton were relegated that season, followed by West Ham a year later.
