Cesc Fabregas’ Como secured Champions League qualification for the first time in their history after a commanding 4-1 win over 10-man Cremonese on the final day of the Serie A season.

The result, combined with AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Cagliari, sealed a fourth-place finish for Fabregas’ side. The loss also confirmed Cremonese’s relegation to Serie B.

Former Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno, who joined Como on a free transfer in July 2024, played an important role in the campaign. The Spain international made 19 Serie A appearances, scoring twice and providing two assists.

Como have now officially confirmed Moreno’s departure at the end of his contract. Across his spell at the club, he made 48 appearances in total, contributing two goals and two assists, and leaves after playing a key role both on and off the pitch during a historic period for the Italian side.

A club statement read: “Everyone at Como 1907 thanks @18albertomp for his commitment and wishes him all the best for the future, both professionally and personally.”

Moreno said: “The time has come to say goodbye, but I leave with the peace of mind that I gave everything on the pitch and with the awareness that, together, we made history. From today, I will be one more Como supporter, and you will always have a special place in my heart.”

A product of the Sevilla academy, the 33-year-old enjoyed a decorated career that included winning the Europa League in 2024.

He spent five seasons at Liverpool that culminated in a Champions League triumph, and then a further five years at Villarreal, where he added another Europa League title to his honours list. Moreno made 141 appearances for Liverpool after joining from Sevilla in August 2014.

He was Liverpool’s first-choice left-back for two seasons before losing his place to James Milner and later Andy Robertson in subsequent campaigns.

“The time has come to say goodbye, but I leave with the peace of mind that I gave everything on the pitch and with the awareness that, together, we made history. From today, I will be one more Como supporter, and you will always have a special place in my heart.”
