Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on a deal worth roughly €100 million for Yan Diomande. The Ivory Coast winger has chosen the French champions over the Reds. According to the latest transfer news, Liverpool had offered him a higher salary, yet he still chose Paris over Anfield.
Yan Diomande Chooses Paris Over Anfield
As reported by ESPN, talks between PSG and RB Leipzig have picked up pace fast. Club presidents Nasser Al Khelaifi and Oliver Mintzlaff are said to be driving the talks themselves, and that personal push from the top has made a real difference.
Money alone hasn’t been enough to make Leipzig budge so far this summer. Diomande has already spoken with manager Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Campos about his future at the Parc des Princes. He’s also understood to have agreed a five-year deal, pending the paperwork between the two clubs.
Notably, wages were not the deciding factor here. As reported by Sky Sports, Liverpool reportedly offered him more money, yet he still leaned toward Paris. So far, Real Madrid have shown interest but have not made a concrete move, and they are not seen as serious rivals at this stage.
Leipzig Dig Their Heels In, But Pressure Builds
The situation grows more complicated here. Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schafer has been firm in public. As reported by Sports Mole, he insists the winger isn’t going anywhere this season, and that the club still holds the leverage right now.
Such statements are common during ongoing negotiations. Clubs often talk tough in public while the real talks continue quietly behind closed doors. Leipzig also has a recent history of letting academy graduates go once the price feels right, so their stance could soften soon.

As reported by GOAL, the fee on the table sits close to €100 million, with add-ons that could push it higher still. PSG, though, have made it clear they don’t plan to overpay under their revised transfer approach this summer. There’s also been talk of a sale-and-loan-back structure, a method Leipzig used before when they sold Naby Keita to PSG.
Why Liverpool were keen on Yan Diomande?
His breakout season in German football explains the scramble around him. He has 12 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga this term, a return matched by very few players outside Christoph Baumgartner. He also wins more than half of his individual duels in matches, as reported by GOAL. That blend of end product and physical edge against senior defenders hasn’t gone unnoticed across Europe. His displays for Ivory Coast at the World Cup have only added to the pull.
For Liverpool, this is a real blow. Mohamed Salah’s exit left a clear gap on the right side of the attack. The Premier League club had reportedly seen Diomande as their priority option this summer, and an opening bid was turned down before talks broke down completely. Sporting director Richard Hughes had worked on this deal for months. In the end, he still lost out late in the process.
With that route now closed, other names have already started doing the rounds at Anfield. Yankuba Minteh, Crysencio Summerville, and even a reunion link with Bradley Barcola have all been mentioned as fallback options. None of them, though, offer quite the same potential that made Diomande such a coveted target.
