Bruno Guimaraes Newcastle
Arsenal have reportedly received a huge boost in the pursuit of Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães, as per Football Insider.
Since moving to St James’ Park from Olympique Lyonnais back in 2022, the 28-year-old has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He even helped the Tyneside club overcome their long-standing seven-decade trophy drought last year.
Although he had fitness problems last term, he showcased his productivity, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
After proving his worth in club football, Guimaraes has secured his place in the Brazilian national team’s starting line-up, helping his side reach the last-16 of the World Cup. He has even registered four assists in as many games in this competition thus far.
It was reported earlier that having been impressed by the South American’s recent impressive performances, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing him.
They even held talks with the player’s representatives, but he wasn’t desperate to leave St James’ Park. However, Football Insider now claim that Guimaraes would be open to joining the Gunners if they manage to find an agreement with Newcastle. So, this is a huge boost for Arsenal to finalise the operation this summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side have already seen their opening £55m proposal rejected by Newcastle, as they have no intention of parting ways with him.
Guimarães to Arsenal
However, the report state that Eddie Howe’s side are fearing a repeat of last summer’s Alexander Isak situation as his agent is pushing to help his client take the next step in his career.
Apart from the Emirates club, Manchester City and Manchester United are also in this race and have been monitoring his situation closely. But the North London club are currently at the front of the queue.
The South American is valued at around £60m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2028. Therefore, Newcastle are in a strong position to demand a big fee for him.
Guimarães is a Premier League proven player and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
