Chelsea open Chavarria talks

Chelsea are in club-to-club talks with Rayo Vallecano as they work on signing Pep Chavarria.

Standard Sport understands that the two teams are discussing details as the Blues look to complete a deal for the left-back.

The 28-year-old would not be a direct replacement for the departed Marc Cucurella, who was sold to Real Madrid a fortnight ago for £51.8million.

London Standard

Manchester United have turned attentions Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha after missing out on Mateus Fernandes, who is set to join Tottenham in an £85million deal.

TEAMtalk report that Michael Carrick views Scott as a strong alternative, although BBC Sport add that Bournemouth are determined to keep the England youngster and could demand around £80m to change their mind.

Former Man City youngster Nmecha is open to a Premier League return, and Man Utd hope to negotiate a lower asking price with Dortmund.

Ronald Koeman has resigned from his post as head coach of the Dutch national team after being dumped out of the World Cup by Morocco.

The Dutch were not entirely convincing in group play and fell at the first hurdle in the knockout rounds. Their meeting with Morocco in Guadalajara ended 1-1 in regular time, before misses from Crysencio Summerville, Quentin Timber and Justin Kluivert scuppered their efforts in the penalty shootout, condemning Der Oranje to an early flight home.

And, less than 24 hours on from the full-time whistle, Koeman has resigned his post as the national team’s manager, a role he has occuppied since 2023.

Writing in a translated open letter on his Instagram page, he wrote: “Last night (Monday) I took the decision to end my stint as head coach of the Dutch National Team. Looking back on my career, I feel especially proud and gratefulness. I have had the privilege to work at Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ, Feyenoord, Southampton, Everton, FC Barcelona and of course two periods at Oranje.”

Jurgen Klopp is said to be open to replacing Julian Nagelsmann as Germany’s head coach.

The current Germany boss’ job is under threat after his side was knocked out of the World Cup by Paraguay on Monday.

Per the Telegraph, Klopp is keen to manage at a World Cup.

Coventry add Bundesliga star

Coventry have completed a deal to sign Aurele Amenda.

The Swiss defender from Eintracht Frankfurt will sign a long-term deal and moves for around £17m, according to Sky Germany.

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.

The 48-year-old guided the Sky Blues to the Championship title last season, securing promotion to the Premier League after 25 years away.

Despite attracting interest from clubs, including Fulham, Lampard has chosen to extend his stay.

Lampard said: "After the incredible work of everybody to get promoted and win the Championship, it was important to enjoy the moment, and we certainly did as a city.

"Our job then as staff, and for the players of course, is to firstly recharge but also focus on what we want to do and what we need to for next season. There's a lot of work to do on and off the pitch as a football club, so those things have been ongoing.

"I'm looking forward to getting back with the players, to see them all and get ready for the new season."

Both Spurs and Man Utd had made the young Portuguese a priority summer signing as the Hammers welcomed a bidding war.

Fernandes was prepared to join either club, as his agent, Jorge Mendes, negotiated with the rival bidders.

And Spurs have triumphed, beating Man Utd to their no1 summer target with bigger financial outlay.

Spurs will pay a guaranteed £85m fix fee for the 21-year-old, easily surpassing the previous club-record £65m purchase of Dominic Solanke in 2024.

Man Utd’s finances could not match Spurs’ might, both in terms of fee and player salary.

Leipzig raid Burnley

RB Leipzig have sent a bid for Maxime Esteve after Burnley were relegated to the Championship.

Per reports, they have offered €26m (£22.3m) for the Frenchman, who they hope will replace Castello Lukeba.

Manchester City are interested in pursuing a loan deal for Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi.

The Lille midfielder is subject to interest from Arsenal after a breakout Ligue 1 campaign and an impressive start to the World Cup.

Per Ben Jacobs, City could look to bring the 18-year old in on loan or on a pre-agreement which would allow him another season to develop in Ligue 1.
