Gini Wijnaldum and Raheem Sterling are among a list of former Liverpool players who are now free agents and looking for their next club.
While players are readily moved on for transfer fees or tied down to new contracts, there are also a plethora who are released and left to look for a new club as a free agent.
Liverpool saw Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Mo Salah leave at the end of their contracts, though the latter is the only one yet to announce his next career move.
It can take time for the cards to fall, and there are a host of ex-Liverpool players who face an uncertain summer – including former senior regulars and notable youth members.

• Gini Wijnaldum
Wijnaldum was unsettled immediately after his Liverpool exit in 2021, spending time with PSG and Roma before joining the exodus to Saudi Arabia.
He initially joined former teammate Jordan Henderson at Al-Ettifaq and worked under Steven Gerrard, and later went on to assume the captaincy.
His contract has since been mutually terminated, reportedly due to financial considerations, after a productive spell. A return to Europe is likely for the 35-year-old.
• Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian terminated his contract with his boyhood club, Vasco da Gama, in February, citing mental exhaustion, and he remains without a club.
No official retirement has been communicated, leaving the Reds’ former No. 10 as a free agent. He was previously linked to MLS, eight years after his sour Liverpool exit.
• Raheem Sterling
Another former player who did not leave under the best circumstances and is now a free agent once again after his short-term contract with Feyenoord ended.
Having been cast aside by Chelsea, Sterling ended his contract in January and made the move to the Netherlands, but he made only eight appearances and didn’t do enough to be rewarded with new terms.
The 31-year-old was arrested in May on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after allegedly being involved in a road collision.

• Danny Ings
A popular figure at Anfield who could never quite get going, Ings went on to join Southampton, Aston Villa, West Ham and, most recently, Sheffield United.
The latter have since released the striker, who is attracting interest from clubs in the Championship.
• Harry Wilson
A notable free agent from the Premier League this summer, but he is not expected to take long to find a new home after agreeing terms with Leeds.
The 29-year-old was not short on suitors after a standout individual season, and there is an argument to be had that he would have been a valuable squad player for Liverpool.
• Nathaniel Clyne
Clyne returned to Crystal Palace in 2020 and continually earned extensions to his short-term deals, winning the FA Cup and UEFA Conference League.
As it stands, the 35-year-old is a free agent, but talks with Palace continue over another contract.

• Alberto Moreno
Moreno wasn’t the long-term solution at left-back that many had hoped for at Anfield, but he has since gone on to have a steady career on the continent, though he suffered two ACL injuries.
He finds himself as a free agent once again after predominantly playing a squad role at Como over two seasons. The left-back reportedly wants to make a return to La Liga.
• Fabio Borini
After spending last summer looking for a club, the striker landed at Salford City on a short-term deal in October, which was later extended until the end of the campaign. He played 33 times and scored five times.
Following their failed attempt to earn promotion to League One in the playoff final, Borini was released and is now on the search for another club.

• Jordon Ibe
Ibe penned a two-year deal with Lokomotiv in November 2025 but departed Bulgaria less than halfway through his stay, with his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The 30-year-old has played for eight different clubs in 10 years since leaving Liverpool in 2016. A return to a club in the UK is likely after spending time abroad.
• Lazar Markovic
For the sixth time, Markovic is a free agent after leaving Cypriot First Division club Apollon Limassol after the conclusion of his one-year contract.
The 32-year-old, who played for four different clubs in the last four seasons, has been content to travel to play, signing for clubs in Europe and the Middle East.

• Ryan Kent
Kent was a steady, reliable figure for Rangers following his Liverpool exit, but since his departure in 2023, he has played for Fenerbahce and Seattle Sounders.
He was released from the latter earlier this year, and while he has been linked with a move back to the UK, he remains a free agent.
• Sheyi Ojo
In 2024, he signed a two-year deal with Slovenian side Maribor as a free agent and has now been released by the club after making 31 appearances last season.

After leaving Reading in 2023, he only went on to sign a two-year deal with Real Oviedo in August 2025 after a successful trial.
The academy graduate has been plagued by persistent injuries and will be on the search for a new club this summer.
• Bobby Adekanye
Adekanye, 27, was on Liverpool’s books for four years before he left for Lazio in 2019. A series of loans followed before he landed at Go Ahead Eagles, then later Amedspor and Manisa.
The latter have now released the 27-year-old, who will be looking for his fourth club in four years.
