2 sources state Chelsea submit bid–Alonso wants deal doing

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has identified Rayo Vallecano’s Pep Chavarría as a target to replace Marc Cucurella.

The Premier League side sold Cucurella to Real Madrid in June and his exit forces them to look for a new left-back. This is where Chavarría comes into the picture.

Two days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Chelsea are preparing to submit an official offer, after making initial contact.

Chelsea table offer

Mundo Deportivo backs up the claim of the Blues’ interest in the 28-year-old and covers the latest.

The west London club seem to chase Pep Chavarría at Xabi Alonso’s request. In fact, they have made further advances by tabling an offer of €9m plus bonuses. However, Rayo Vallecano have turned it down.

Mundo provides no further details and points out the fullback was one of the key players last season.

La Razón also claims the Spanish club have rejected Chelsea’s €9m offer for Chavarría.

Villarreal have shown interest in the fullback at the request of their new manager, Iñigo Pérez. He knows the player well from his time at Rayo Vallecano and wants to reunite with him at the new club.

The Yellow Submarine tabled a €6m bid and their La Liga rivals rejected it, as they deem both offers insufficient.

For now, Chelsea are leading the race and have to increase their offer to stand a chance to sign him.

Chavarría has a €50m release clause. However, Rayo Vallecano are willing to sanction his sale for less than that, without the report mentioning a figure. This should give the Blues hope to sign the player desired by their new manager this summer.
