Fabrizio Romano has moved quickly to calm any rumours that AC Milan could land Virgil van Dijk this summer.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Milan’s top brass are considering an audacious move for their ‘dream’ centre-back target Van Dijk, who is Liverpool’s captain and just exited the World Cup.

With his contract expiring at the end of next season, the opportunity could be there to tempt the Dutchman to try a new experience in Italy. Liverpool are expected to have a summer of big change after a disappointing title defence saw Andoni Iraola replace Arne Slot.
Van Dijk not available
Fabrizio Romano spoke about the rumours this morning about the Rossoneri’s possible move for the former Celtic and Southampton man, with his words relayed by MilanNews. It is safe to say he is not quite as confident as La Gazzetta, even though Van Dijk revealed an admiration for Milan’s greats.
“Today, it seems to me that Virgil van Dijk is 101% part of Liverpool’s plan. The player has already spoken to Andoni Iraola and speaks daily with Liverpool’s executives,” he said.
“The Reds have already lost a number of leaders, the same reason why they didn’t release Alisson for Juve. Salah left, Robertson left: they’re losing key players in the dressing room.
“Imagine losing van Dijk in the year a new manager arrives. I don’t feel like making Milan fans dream right now: it would be fantastic to have him in Italy, but right now Liverpool are completely relaxed and calm.”
