Everton need €25m after contacts initiated – Competition also open talks

Everton will need at least €25m for Parma midfielder Mandela Keita after opening talks with the Italian club and the player’s agents.

Sport Italia, and their journalist Gianluigi Longari, report on the midfielder today and his current asking price.

Everton open talks

Sport Witness covered a report from Italy yesterday explaining that Everton had opened talks with both Parma and Mandela Keita’s agents about a move this summer.

That followed a report in England that stated the 24-year-old midfielder was on the Toffees list this summer.

That report offered no potential asking price, though. Now Sport Italia and Longari provide the information.

According to them, Atalanta are also ‘very attentive’ to Keita this summer. In fact, they have held talks with Parma about a deal for the Belgian midfielder. Parma’s asking price is €25m plus bonuses.

They do not make any mention of Everton at this point. But they do state that a ‘couple of foreign clubs’ are also interested in the midfielder. It is likely that Everton fall into that group given what has been reported elsewhere.

Do Everton want to spend?

The question is whether they want to spend €25m on the midfielder this summer. They have already strengthened in that position, with a €16m deal for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney already progressing and likely to be completed this week.

Merlin Rohl’s loan deal has also been made permanent, adding more competition to the central midfielder area. But with Idrissa Gana Gueye yet to sign a new deal, and reports linking Tim Iroegbunam with a departure, they may need more additions than initially anticipated.

The fact that Atalanta are also keen should offer encouragement too. Their history of identifying and developing midfield talent, with Ederson the latest to depart in a big money move to Manchester United this summer, hints that Keita is a player worth paying for.
