Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence on transfer talk. This Arsenal news comes just days before Sweden face France in the World Cup knockout stage.
Viktor Gyokeres addresses exit rumours head on
Gyokeres knows about the rumours surrounding his place at the Emirates Stadium. As reported by GOAL, Arsenal are exploring a deal that could send him to Atletico Madrid. The move would help the club sign Julian Alvarez in return. Gyokeres arrived from Sporting CP with a huge reputation last summer. Yet he often played second choice to Kai Havertz during the title-winning campaign. That pattern has fueled talk of a summer exit.
As reported by The Sun, before the France match, Gyokeres insisted he remains happy under Arteta.“Of course it’s flattering to see that clubs are interested but I feel extremely comfortable at Arsenal. After the season we have had, I only have positive feelings,” he said. He is not pushing for an exit, even with his club reportedly shopping elsewhere.
Viktor Gyokeres’ stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists
Premier League 36 14 1
FA Cup 2 1 0
EFL Cup 4 1 1
UCL 13 5 1
Alvarez swap talk gains momentum
The uncertainty around Gyokeres has grown because of Arsenal’s strong interest in Alvarez. As reported by ESPN, the Premier League champions want the Argentine back in England. Gyokeres could head to the Metropolitano as part of the exchange. Arteta wants more variety up front as Arsenal try to defend their title.
Gyokeres scored 21 goals in all competitions during his first season in England. That is a solid return, though short of his ruthless numbers in Portugal. His movement and hold-up play remain top-class in modern football. He still needed time to adjust to physical Premier League defending. Alvarez brings a different profile to the role. He can drop deep, link play, and press from the front.
Sweden eye World Cup upset against France
For now, Gyokeres is focused on the World Cup rather than his club future. As reported by BBC, Sweden reached the knockout rounds under Graham Potter after beating Tunisia and drawing with Japan. That form sets up a huge test against tournament favourites France. Gyokeres will line up against his own Arsenal teammate William Saliba.
As reported by Sky Sports, Gyokeres said: “Yeah I’m looking forward to seeing him and to playing against him, it’s going to be fun. We have to be at our best, we have to do our defensive organization almost perfect and then of course take the chances we’re going to get in the game.” Sweden will likely see fewer clear sights of goal against a well-organised French backline. Every half chance could end up deciding the match.
Gyokeres and his teammates know they are not favourites. Still, belief runs high inside the Swedish camp. The striker added: “We have our confidence, I think we have to believe in ourselves, we’ve seen in a lot of games this tournament that you can win games and you can do well even though you play against the best teams. So of course, we might be the underdogs but we still believe in ourselves.”
If Sweden can find a way past France, Gyokeres will return to Arsenal with fresh leverage this summer. For now, though, his message to the Gunners is clear that he is not going anywhere without a fight.
