“I don’t really watch football” – Liverpool signing Víctor Muñoz explains why PL will be a surprise

New Liverpool signing Víctor Muñoz has admitted that the Premier League will be a surprise for him next season, as he doesn’t tend to watch a lot of football.

El Pais Nacional have an interview with the 22-year-old today discussing his career to date, and the impending move to Liverpool.

Liverpool expectations

The winger is joining the Reds this summer once he is done at the World Cup with Spain. Andoni Iraola’s side moved quickly to snap hi up earlier this year in a €40m deal, stealing him from under Newcastle United’s nose in the process.

He arrives at Anfield following an impressive campaign with Osasuna, who he joined in a €25m deal from Real Madrid last summer.

He went on to score seven goals and register five assists in 36 games for the club, prompting Liverpool to pay his release clause this summer to take him to the Premier League.

That move is his first outside of England, and he explains it will be a learning experience as he’s not a big fan of watching football in general.

“Generally speaking, I don’t really watch football matches very much. I’m more of a player myself,” he admitted.

He is, though, curious about life in the Premier League.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing it – those matches with plenty of back-and-forth action,” he added.

“I feel very comfortable when matches are more disjointed, something that’s quite rare in La Liga. Those situations in a match, where you’re constantly in transition, are something that could really suit me.”

He is also confident that the transition won’t be a difficult one for him. That’s been helped by Andoni Iraola, who has already moved to make the youngster feel more comfortable.

“He rang me and put me at ease,” he concluded.

“He explained to me how his teams play, which is something that really benefits me – that style of constantly pressing. I think it’s the ideal environment for me to continue developing as a footballer.”
