Jurgen Klopp could now be set to return to management just over two years after leaving Liverpool, with the 59-year-old open to becoming Germany manager.
Klopp departed Liverpool after nine years in charge in 2024, and he now holds the role of head of global soccer for the Red Bull group.
That has given him a much-needed change of pace after admitting he no longer had the energy for day-to-day management at club level.
But after Germany’s exit from a World Cup he has been covering as a pundit for MagentaTV, Klopp is open to replacing Julian Nagelsmann as national team manager.
The Telegraph‘s Sam Wallace is among those to report on Klopp’s desire to explore the opportunity, writing that he would “relish the chance” to lead his country at the 2030 World Cup.

However, he adds: “The terms of any agreement would have to be tailored to the needs of the 59-year-old who is unlikely to want to spend every weekend watching players perform on the circuit of Bundesliga and Premier League matches.”
Despite this seemingly hands-off approach it is clear that, if he is willing to take the job, Klopp would be the top candidate to replace Nagelsmann.
A decision has not been made on Nagelsmann’s future as of yet and the 38-year-old insists he wants to remain in charge, but Wallace explains that his position “looks untenable.”
The Times‘ Paul Joyce writes that Klopp has “emerged as the favourite” for Germany, with suggestions of a clause in his deal with Red Bull which would allow his release to take the job.

Immediately after Germany were knocked out of the World Cup by Paraguay, the Liverpool legend played down speculation over him succeeding Nagelsmann.
“I haven’t thought about that yet,” he told MagentaTV.
“I’ve often been in that situation myself as a coach, where a big dream has been shattered.
“I understand that when people talk about the national coach, my name is mentioned. But it’s not the right moment to talk about it, especially not with me.
“I have a job that I really enjoy. And as far as I know, it’s not a part-time job.
“The fact is, Germany was eliminated today, and this is not the moment for me to think about Jurgen Klopp‘s future.”
