FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta attacked Real Madrid during the event where he officially took possession of Barça’s presidency for another term.
“Out in other circles, they’re super on edge, holding these ridiculous press conferences, and they ain’t got their compass set straight. They’re basically just doing a déjà vu… But we got a more solid team, with Hansi Flick leading these players that got everyone hyped,” he said.
He didn’t actually mention Real Madrid, but it’s quite clear that he was referring to Florentino Pérez’s press conference where he first announced that the club was undergoing an election process.
Knowing that it’s always good for him to attack Real Madrid, Laporta kept going.
“We’re gonna have a super competitive team, but we can’t let our guard down because some folks out there never sleep. When they come at our club, they’re always gonna find a president and a board with strong leadership, totally committed to defending our institution against anything and everyone. That’s our promise. We’ll defend Barça against all attacks. This kind of leadership doesn’t do lukewarm; you gotta defend it all the time,” he added.
After a brief period of time when the two clubs got along and worked together for the Superleague, the relationship between Barcelona and Real Madrid is once again a tumultuous one.
