Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes isn’t the only midfielder Arsenal have enquired about.
Although the Gunners are yet to open club-to-club talks over Guimaraes, Newcastle reportedly rejected a £60million proposal that was put forward through intermediaries last week.
The Magpies insist their captain is not for sale and no offers will be entertained.
The saga isn’t expected to end there though, with Guimaraes understood to be seriously considering his future at St James’ Park following last season’s 12th place in the Premier League.
But at least in Arsenal’s case, Guimaraes doesn’t appear to be the only midfielder under consideration. Talksport have reported that Mikel Arteta’s side have approached AFC Bournemouth for Alex Scott.
However, the Cherries have taken a similar stance to Newcastle by communicating that the 22-year-old is not for sale.
Like Guimaraes, Scott has two years left on his contract. The Magpies, however, hold an option of a further year, effectively tying down the Brazilian until June 2029.
Newcastle could yet use this as an opportunity to try and negotiate a new contract with Guimaraes, who last signed an extension in October 2024.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle in January 2022 in a deal worth up to £40million and has since gone on to make 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.
He also became the first Newcastle captain in 70 years to lift a trophy at Wembley when he led the club to Carabao Cup success in March last year.
