Bidding war breaks out as Liverpool and Man Utd dispatch officials for the same winger

The Premier League may be on hold right now, but that's not stopping Manchester United and Liverpool from igniting their rivalry away from the pitch and in the transfer market.

With Yan Diomande set to choose Paris Saint-Germain over a move to Anfield this summer, Liverpool are back at the drawing board and still searching for their Mohamed Salah replacement.

Man United, meanwhile, are still on the hunt for reinforcements of their own to add to the arriving Ederson. Whilst midfield has been their priority, the presence of their biggest rivals in the race for Mateus Mane could yet change that.

Compared to the eye-watering transfer fees flying around English football this summer, Mane represents a rare chance to land a bargain.

Liverpool & Man Utd dispatch officials in Mane race

As reported by Fussball Daten, Liverpool and Man United have dispatched club officials in the race to sign Mane from Wolves this summer.

The Midlands club are desperate to keep hold of their star man, but will green light his exit if they can ignite a bidding war.

Wolves' Mateus Mane

Alongside the aforementioned duo, Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt are also interested in the teenage star, sparking a huge race for his signature.

Wolves will automatically reject any offers worth £30m and that could reportedly shift their valuation towards £35m as a transfer arms race breaks out.

Why Liverpool should focus on Mane alternatives this summer

No one can deny that Mane is a rising star. He is still just 18 years old and just enjoyed five goal involvements in his first breakout season for a relegated side in the Premier League. But that does not mean he's ready for Liverpool.

The Reds have already taken a gamble on Victor Munoz and have to land a proven star to replace Salah. If it's not Diomande, then it should not be Mane.

The Wolves star will get his time in the spotlight. For now, though, he is best served either staying put at Wolves for another season or securing a move to a Premier League side that he will start for every week.

Bradley Barcola has been rejecting contract offers from PSG since he learned of Liverpool's interest, according to Fabrizio Romano, and looks the standout candidate.
