[Barcelona summer signing Anthony Gordon](/fc-barcelona-transfer-rumors-news/121943/official-barcelona-sign-anthony-gordon-from-newcastle) came off the bench and delivered two assists for Harry Kane as England came from 1-0 down to beat DRC Congo 2-1 at World Cup 2026.
Marcus Rashford started ahead of Gordon for the Three Lions in the last 32 encounter but made way in the second half after an ineffective showing for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Gordon was sent on and teed up Harry Kane for the equaliser in the 75th minute. The Barcelona man dinked a ball into the box for Kane to nod home.
England then won it 10 minutes later as Kane grabbed his second of the match after more good work from Gordon. The winger found Kane on the edge of the penalty area and watched on as the England captain took a touch and then fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to win the game.
According to Mister Chip, Gordon becomes the first player to record two assists as a substitute in a knockout-stage match in World Cup history.
The two assists will be a confidence boost to Gordon after he lost his place in the team, and he will now be hoping he’s done enough to convince Tuchel to start him next time out.
England go on to play co-hosts Mexico in the last 16 at the Azteca.
