Arsenal transfer news: Star striker ready to force exit
Arsenal transfer news: Winning the Premier League usually buys a football club some peace. Not this time. Mikel Arteta is facing an unexpected summer headache just twelve months after splashing £73.5m on Viktor Gyökeres. Reports from Spain suggest the Swedish international wants out.
El Nacional claims the striker is ready to force a move away from North London, with Hansi Flick’s Barcelona waiting in the wings. Flick has just guided Barça to back-to-back LaLiga titles. Now he wants a new talisman. Shockingly, a fee of around €60m, roughly £52m, could be enough to seal it. Arsenal would take a massive financial hit.
Look closely at the campaign, and the cracks start to show. Medals don’t tell the full story. Gyökeres bagged 14 goals in 36 league games, clocking up 2,231 minutes. Decent. But this is a man who practically broke Portuguese football, plundering 68 goals in 66 matches for Sporting CP. By those ridiculous standards, his Emirates debut felt a bit flat.
True, he hit the 20-goal mark across all competitions in early May, becoming the first Arsenal debutant to manage that since Alexis Sánchez in 2014–15. Still, the Swede never felt like an undisputed starter. Spanish sources insist he hasn’t clicked with Arteta. Apparently, three distinct non-football issues are driving him toward the exit.
The Barcelona transfer dominoes
Barcelona need a long-term successor for Robert Lewandowski. Sporting director Deco is keen, and Flick is sold on the idea. Financing it is the tricky part, but a crazy transfer merry-go-round could unlock everything. Picture this. Ferran Torres packs his bags for Aston Villa. Villa then let Ollie Watkins head to Arsenal, clearing the path for Gyökeres to land at the Nou Camp. It sounds like classic July paper talk. These elaborate chains usually fall apart. The interest, however, is concrete.
The player is playing his cards close to his chest. Away on World Cup duty with Sweden, Gyökeres played down the rumours. He admitted the interest is flattering but insisted he feels happy in London after a positive season. Classic media training. Behind closed doors, Spanish reports claim he is singing a very different tune and is ready to rattle cages to get his move.

Fabrizio Romano has chimed in, stating Arsenal want to keep their man. A monster bid could change their stance. Some Spanish outlets put the required figure at €67m. Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta will not want to look weak in the market.
