Liverpool are set to miss out on RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain now leading the race for his signature.

The Reds had identified the 19-year-old as a key target to replace club legend Mohamed Salah, who departed after nine highly successful years at Anfield.

However, Diomande has reportedly made PSG his preferred destination, with the French champions already opening talks with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and moving ahead in negotiations.

The development is a major setback for Liverpool, with sporting director Richard Hughes having tracked the player for months after initial contact with his representatives last year.

Despite the blow, Liverpool are already exploring alternatives. TSG Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure has emerged as a potential option after an impressive 2025/26 season, in which he registered 17 goal contributions in the Bundesliga.

Toure has also attracted interest from Newcastle United, with reports indicating the Magpies have been monitoring his situation closely as they look to strengthen their wide options.

Liverpool have already been active in the market, having beaten Newcastle United to the signing of Osasuna forward Víctor Munoz.

However, according to the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Newcastle have reached an agreement to sign Toure, who is viewed as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon. A deal is not yet finalised but is believed to be progressing, with negotiations still ongoing.

Newcastle United’s transfer strategy has been reshaped following the £170m double departure of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, which has significantly altered their squad plans for the summer window.

Following Ivory Coast’s exit from the World Cup at the last-32 stage on Tuesday, Newcastle United have accelerated their move for winger Bazoumana Toure.

According to The Athletic, the Hoffenheim winger is expected to travel to Tyneside for a medical as Newcastle look to wrap up their second signing of the summer.

Toure would follow the arrival of goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, who joined last week as part of the club’s early transfer business.
