Arsenal are hopeful that a £65m offer “could be enough to clinch” the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.

Chronicle Live reporter Lee Ryder has strong inside sources at St James’ Park, and he says, while the Magpies’ current stance is that the Brazilian is not for sale, the Gunners feel a “tipping point” may be reached if they significantly increase their opening bid.
A £45m verbal offer was reportedly made through intermediaries, which was immediately rejected, but the fact that the proposal was made at all indicates that Guimaraes’ head has been turned.
Mikel Arteta’s side would not have started negotiations without being sure that the player wanted to make the move to the Emirates.
Will the sale of Tonali harden Newcastle’s stance?
There is no doubt that Tottenham have complicated matters for Arsenal by getting a deal in place to sign Guimaraes’ teammate Sandro Tonali.
The optics of selling so many key players in the same summer may lead to Newcastle shutting shop and refusing to sell their captain.
Guimaraes may, though, dig his heels in as well, so you do feel there is some way to go before this situation is resolved, especially as the midfielder is still playing at the World Cup for Brazil.

Arsenal have one new signing already
The Gunners announced a week ago that they had triggered their option to buy Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen following his season-long loan.
The Ecuadorian international officially became an Arsenal player on July 1st, and he has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, keeping him in North London until the summer of 2031. We shall have to wait and see whether Guimaraes follows him through the door.
