Mexico have lit up this World Cup with a flawless group-stage run, racking up three wins from three against Czech Republic, South Africa and South Korea to cruise into the knockouts.

El Tri then made more headlines with a 2-0 victory over Ecuador in the round of 32. They are yet to concede a goal in the tournament this summer.

Next up is a stern last‑16 examination against England, after the Three Lions came back from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 last night.

But it looks like Mexico’s World Cup run is attracting Liverpool interest as well as the Europe’s top clubs.

De Telegraaf are reporting that Liverpool are closely tracking 17-year-old Mexican attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora after his breakout World Cup campaign.

Mora has already written his name into World Cup history by becoming the second‑youngest player ever to start a knockout match, behind Brazil legend Pele, when he lined up against Ecuador at just 17 years and 259 days.

He is the youngest Mexican to appear at a men’s World Cup and has featured both as a substitute and a starter during this tournament.

At club level, Mora is contracted to Club Tijuana, having made his Liga MX debut at just 15.

He has since established himself in the first team, accelerating European interest and prompting top clubs to update dossiers on his development.

De Telegraaf report that Liverpool and Manchester United are among the leading Premier League sides “angling” for his signature, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid also credited with interest as clubs jostle for position ahead of a potential future move.

Due to his age, clubs may explore early pre‑agreement routes rather than an immediate transfer. Tijuana strengthened their hand by extending Mora’s deal to 2029, meaning any suitor – including Liverpool – will likely face a tough negotiation

It is claimed Mora would prefer to postpone a move to Europe until after his 18th birthday in October 2027.

He is represented by Rafael Pimenta, who is also the agent of Arne Slot.
