Chelsea transfer news has never moved quite this fast. Enzo Fernandez, the Argentine who cost the Blues a then-British record £107 million in January 2023, has told his camp to find him a way out of Stamford Bridge. The list of clubs wanting him reads like a who’s who of European football’s heavyweights.
Agent Javier Pastore has confirmed that Fernandez is actively “looking at possibilities to leave Chelsea” before the summer window shuts. No sugar-coating it. No diplomatic repositioning. The 25-year-old wants out. The clock is ticking.
Real Madrid remain the frontrunner. According to journalist Gianluigi Longari, Los Blancos have already reached a verbal agreement with Fernandez on a five-year contract. Chelsea’s price tag of at least €120 million stands as the wall Madrid must breach. The club’s position is unambiguous: Fernandez only leaves if an enormous offer arrives, a figure matching roughly what they originally paid Benfica for him. Madrid’s own financial priorities make that a genuine obstacle. This is where the saga gets complicated.
City and Arsenal enter the frame
Arsenal have joined Manchester City in the race for Fernandez. The Gunners are monitoring the midfielder’s situation ahead of a potential move this summer. Longari separately reported that both Premier League clubs are now gathering information on the Argentine. It is a significant escalation. A four-way chase. Fernandez is understood to be open to a reunion with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City, where the Italian has taken over from Pep Guardiola.
The numbers backing any interest are hard to argue with. In the 2025/26 Premier League season, Fernandez registered 10 goals and 4 assists across 3,121 minutes, averaging a FotMob rating of 7.3. Across the last two campaigns combined, only Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah have recorded more assists in all competitions than him. That statistic places him in genuinely elite company.
Chelsea’s asking price sits just under €140 million. A player-plus-cash swap arrangement could be the realistic route for Madrid, with Arda Guler considered a possible makeweight. Reports from Spain suggest Real Madrid have also offered two players as part of a package deal to soften the financial blow. New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso wants to retain him. Alonso views Fernandez as central to his project. A direct meeting between the pair is expected before any final decision is made.

Ben Jacobs noted that Fernandez appeared to wave farewell to Chelsea supporters following the final day defeat to Sunderland. A gesture that could be read as a goodbye. It probably was. Chelsea won’t sanction a sale at a book loss, which means any buyer must offer a minimum of approximately £62.8 million just to keep the accounts clean, and realistically far more than that. Real Madrid need to blink first. The £120 million question is whether Florentino Perez is prepared to write a cheque that large.
