Liverpool have unveiled a permanent memorial at Anfield in tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, on the eve of the first anniversary of their tragic passing.
Named Forever 20, the installation honours their lives, their bond, and the widespread affection shown to them by family, teammates and supporters worldwide.
Designed by sculptor Emma Rodgers, the centrepiece features a flowing heart sculpture inspired by Jota’s iconic goal celebration. Viewed from different angles, it reveals the numbers 20 and 30, worn by the two brothers during their careers.
The memorial also incorporates lyrics from Jota’s popular song among Liverpool fans, with hand-carved lettering flowing across the structure to reflect his movement and style on the pitch.
Located on 97 Avenue at Anfield, the site has long served as a tribute area where fans left flowers, scarves, shirts, and messages following the tragedy in July 2025.
Some of those items, along with sections of scarves and shirts, have been preserved within the sculpture, while others are embedded into the granite plinth, which uses Portuguese stone from Gondomar.
A bronze-cast flower and a PlayStation controller are also included in the design, symbolising personal tributes left by fans and Jota’s well-known love of gaming. Forever 20 is intended as a lasting place of remembrance and reflection for supporters.
Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who played for Portuguese second-division side Penafiel, died in a car crash on July 3 2025, in the Spanish province of Zamora.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Anfield.
Ruben Neves, Jota’s close friend and former Porto, Wolves and Portugal teammate, recently disclosed that he still talks to him. “Few people know this,” Neves, who is wearing Jota’s number 21 national shirt at the World Cup, told Portuguese TV show, Alta Definicao.
“We have a WhatsApp group with Rute and Diogo, and it’s still there, and we continue to talk there. Whenever something special happens, I have the conversations archived on my WhatsApp so I can continue to send him messages.”
