According to Italian reports, Roma are already making moves on the front to strengthen their forward line ahead of next season. That urgency has led them to Alejandro Garnacho, the 22-year-old Argentine winger currently on the books at Chelsea. The Giallorossi have contacted Chelsea in the last few hours to understand if the deal could be done, reports say.
Roma are working on a temporary deal rather than a permanent transfer at this point in time, the reports reveal. There are no formal negotiations underway at the moment, just an inquiry about whether the deal would be doable. The Madrid-born forward suits the profile Gian Piero Gasperini has identified to sharpen his attacking options ahead of a demanding campaign which includes a return to the Champions League.
Garnacho’s situation suggests that he could benefit from a change of scenery away from Stamford Bridge. The Argentine international has failed to live up to expectations in London, and the Blues are now looking to offload him, and the move has attracted the interest of Italy’s biggest clubs. Over the last few weeks, he has been repeatedly linked with a Serie A escape route.
Roma aren’t the only Italian club interested in the former Manchester United academy graduate. The winger’s dossier, it is understood, has been passed to Juventus, AC Milan, and Roma through intermediaries. Napoli have also been linked with a move for the player and the Giallorossi could face stiff domestic competition if their interest materialises into anything more concrete.
Garnacho’s tough first season at Chelsea
Alejandro Garnacho arrived in west London last summer with great expectation, but however you look at it, his opening campaign has been underwhelming. Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United for £40m, hoping to reignite a career that had stagnated under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. Instead, the winger has had a torrid time trying to secure a regular starting spot.
Garnacho played 1,268 minutes in the 2025/2026 Premier League season, scoring one goal and making four assists. Those returns are a long way short of what is expected of a player of his reputation and price tag.
As the campaign slogged toward its conclusion, his shrinking role became increasingly apparent. He was an unused sub in the away defeat at Sunderland in May and got one minute in the win over Tottenham soon after. A loan move, therefore, seems a sensible way for a talented forward who badly needs playing time and a confidence boost.
