Hill Dickinson Stadium is under consideration to host the Super League Grand Final in the future. The Grand Final will be played at Manchester United’s Old Trafford until 2027 after a three-year deal was signed back in 2024.

Old Trafford has been the home of the Super League Grand Final since 1998, apart from 2020 when it was hosted at the KCOM Stadium in Hull due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But Rugby League Commercial will explore other venues ahead of their current agreement with United coming to an end.

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium is one ground that will come under consideration, but RL Commercial's managing director Rhodri Jones has confirmed Everton’s waterfront home will also be a contender to host the iconic game.

“Our current term with Old Trafford ends in October 2027, so there are two more finals at Old Trafford,” he told the ECHO.

“But after that there are other contenders now for consideration to host the Grand Final, and you would expect Hill Dickinson Stadium would be on that list.

“And I am sure that they would be very keen to host such a prestigious event like the Grand Final that has only ever been played at two venues, predominantly Old Trafford and, one year, at Hull during Covid.”

Rugby League returns to Liverpool this weekend when Everton's waterfront home hosts Magic Weekend.

Over 76,000 tickets have been sold for the event, surpassing the previous record attendance of 68,276 set at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park back in 2016.

And after making history back in November when the Ashes Test between England and Australia became the first non-football event to be played at Hill Dickinson Stadium, even more history will be made this weekend.

That is because for the first time since the Blues moved into their new home, fans can look forward to live performances from chart-topping artists Example and Jax Jones.

Example will perform on Saturday and global dance superstar Jax Jones on Sunday, with both acts performing between game two and games three on their respective days.

“It is about being culturally relevant,” Jones told the ECHO when asked for his thinking behind the move. “So speaking to a younger demographic is one of our strategies.

“The decision to bring Example and Jax Jones to the venue adds to that festival vibe that we are looking for at the weekend.

“Our fans want to come and have a good time and we felt that these two artists would add that for them. I am sure the roof will come off when those two perform."
