Bruno Guimaraes release clause & Newcastle United transfer truth as Arsenal watch on after…

Newcastle United have maintained their transfer stance on Bruno Guimaraes after sanctioning the £100million sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.

Guimaraes is away with Brazil in the USA right now, leading his country to the World Cup last 16 with some impressive performances and four assists to his name.

However, his involvement has done little to dampen transfer talk; in fact, it's increased, especially with Arsenal circling and his agents in overdrive across the pond.

Just this week, agent Alexis Malavolta was pictured on social media with super-agent Kia Joorabchian, rumoured to be a middleman in talks, and Brazilian agent Giuliano Bertolucci, who helped finalise Guimaraes’ £40million move from Lyon to Newcastle in January 2022.

That image has added fuel to an already roaring fire at St James' Park, following the departure of two Newcastle star men - Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali - this summer.

But Newcastle insist Guimaraes, thought to be open to exploring a future away from Tyneside, will not be added to that list, sources have told the Gazette.

Reports, which started in Brazil, and have since grown to prominence on UK social media, claim Newcastle have set an asking price for the midfielder, said to be in and around the £65m mark.

Other reports claim there is a clause in Guimaraes' deal which allows him to leave for £60m, depending on various factors.

The Gazette put these claims to Newcastle United, and both were firmly shut down. When asked for clarity, the club insist there is no release clause in Guimaraes' current deal - and strictly no asking price, as, like stated seven days previous, United will not entertain offers for the 28-year-old.

Importantly, it's understood Newcastle do not need to sell Guimaraes to satisfy any financial rules or related calculations. Nor do they need to sell to add - the £100million Tonali exit to Tottenham Hotspur has, we're told, unlocked the door to multiple incomings, the first of which will be Bazoumana Toure, who was at the club's newly re-named Benton training base, The KNOX, on Thursday.

Newcastle are set to sign the 20-year-old Ivorian winger from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in a deal worth around £42million. He replaces Gordon, who left to join Barcelona for £70million at the start of the transfer window.

An exit for Guimaraes, the skipper who lifted the Carabao Cup in 2025 to end a 56-year trophy drought, would be met with acute anger among the United fanbase. Any such move would rightly raise huge questions about the direction of travel and ambitions at St James' Park. Club officials are aware of the potential fallout from a Guimaraes sale.

The captain is thought to be the highest earner at Newcastle, but would likely to be able to demand a much higher salary elsewhere, having recently seen Tonali almost double his wages at Tottenham Hotspur.

Guimaraes' contract is set to expire in the summer of 2028. However, as revealed by the Gazette this week, the Magpies have an option to extend that by one year.
