Arsenal believe 'deal can be done' for 6ft star - Arteta adores him

Arsenal want to strengthen their midfield this summer. Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes appears to be their primary target.

However, Sandro Tonali’s impending move from Newcastle to Tottenham Hotspur has cast doubt over Arsenal’s chances of signing Guimaraes.

There are fears that Newcastle could be reluctant to lose both of their star midfielders at once.

Arsenal not giving up on pursuit of Guimaraes

Newcastle insist that Guimaraes is not for sale. Tonali’s imminent move to Spurs and Anthony Gordon’s transfer to Barcelona have put them in a stronger position to keep their skipper.

However, The Sun report that Arsenal believe that a ‘deal can be done’ for Guimaraes, with the club preparing a £60 million bid for the midfielder.

The Gunners believe that a ‘monstrous bid‘ could force the Magpies to the negotiating table.

The north London side have been long-term admirers of the 28-year-old, having shown interest in him before his move to Lyon and again before his switch to Newcastle.

Manager Mikel is reportedly a big admirer of Guimaraes, with the Spaniard keen to bolster his midfield options.

Guimaraes has two years left on his current deal, but Newcastle are prepared to extend his stay on Tyneside.

The 6-foot star has impressed for Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing four assists in four games. Only France’s Michael Olise has registered more at the tournament.

Besides Guimaraes, Arsenal are exploring alternative midfield targets. They have already seen an approach for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott turned down, and are also interested in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
