Man Utd have started 'exploratory' talks to sign £43m winger before Arsenal

Manchester United have opened talks with West Ham United for Crysensio Summerville, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Netherlands international had a decent 2025/26 season with the Hammers, scoring seven goals and providing five assists from 34 appearances.

He went on to impress at the World Cup. The Dutch exited at the round of 32 against Morocco, but Summerville fared well with four goal contributions.

Earlier last month, it was revealed that Arsenal have a genuine interest in the 24-year-old and could face fierce competition from United, who are ‘very interested’.

Jacobs has now confirmed that the Red Devils have opened talks with the Hammers and there has been ‘direct club-to-club contact’ regarding the Dutchman.

Talks are ‘exploratory at this stage’, and any bid could be contingent on Marcus Rashford being sold.

Arsenal could consider Summerville as a backup target

The Gunners are poised to strengthen their left-wing department ahead of next season. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola are the prime targets.

Arsenal recently watched the latter in action for France against Sweden. The Paris Saint-Germain star made a big impression with a goal, and he is viewed as a ‘strong alternative‘ to Rogers.

Meanwhile, the club’s hierarchy could also pursue a secondary left-wing signing for a lower fee. Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis was heavily linked, but the speculation has cooled in recent weeks.

The Gunners may give priority to a winger with Premier League experience, which could see them move for Summerville, who was reportedly valued at £43 million before the World Cup.

The Hammers just sold Matheus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur for £85m upfront, and one can expect them to demand at least £55-60m for Summerville after his World Cup showing.

Arsenal are not exploring a move at the moment, but they have time on their hands to enter the race, given United are nowhere close to finding a suitor for Rashford at the current point.

We would personally not mind the Gunners pursuing a deal for Rashford after his 28 goal contributions for Barcelona on loan last season.

He has a £40m release clause in his contract, but may have to accept a hefty pay cut to move.

At the moment, it does not appear the Englishman is willing to join another Premier League outfit.
