Arsenal have confirmed the permanent departure of defender Jakub Kiwior after Portuguese champions Porto exercised the purchase option included in the Poland international’s season-long loan agreement.
The star leaves the Emirates Stadium following a successful spell in Portugal, where he established himself as a key figure in Porto’s defence and played an important role in the club’s Primeira Liga title-winning campaign.
His performances convinced Porto to trigger the agreed option, bringing an end to his three-and-a-half-year stay with the Premier League club.
Arsenal announced the transfer in an official statement, thanking Kiwior for his contribution and wishing him success in the next chapter of his career. The move had been widely expected after Porto confirmed their intention to retain the defender following an impressive season on loan.
Kiwior joined Arsenal from Italian side Spezia in January 2023 and made 68 appearances in all competitions. Although he often found first-team opportunities limited due to strong competition in central defence, the left-footed defender proved to be a dependable squad member under manager Mikel Arteta.
He also provided cover at left-back and featured in several important fixtures during his time in north London.
His move to Porto last summer offered the opportunity for regular first-team football, and the Polish international quickly became an integral part of the Portuguese club’s defensive unit.
Consistent performances throughout the campaign helped Porto secure the league title, prompting the club to activate the permanent transfer clause before the deal officially came into effect this month.
The transfer also represents another step in Arsenal’s summer squad reshaping as Arteta continues to refine his options ahead of the new campaign. Kiwior’s departure follows changes within the club’s defensive ranks, with Arsenal seeking to strengthen key areas while trimming players who are unlikely to feature regularly.
For Porto, the signing secures the long-term future of a defender who has already adapted successfully to Portuguese football and earned the trust of the coaching staff.
For Kiwior, the permanent switch offers the chance to continue building on a productive campaign while remaining a regular at club level ahead of future international commitments with Poland.
The transfer concludes a move that has benefited all parties, with Arsenal receiving a permanent fee and Porto retaining one of the standout performers from their championship-winning season.
