'To decide' - Fabrizio Romano issues update on Sheffield Wednesday star amid Manchester City…

The latest on Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles amid Manchester City interest

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles has reportedly agreed to return to his former club Manchester City.

The 20-year-old cut his teeth in the academy ranks of the Premier League giants before linking up with Wednesday in 2021.

He has since enjoyed a swift rise to prominence, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Hillsborough at a young age.

Manchester City move ‘agreed’

A raft of clubs have been linked with Charles of late, with Manchester City among them. According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, they have won the race for the Northern Ireland international’s signature.

Postin on X, Romano said: “Pierce Charles has agreed to return to Manchester City, deal in place with Sheffield Wednesday with formalities being sorted. MCFC to decide next about Charles staying or leaving on loan.”

Alternatively, the Premier League heavyweights may opt to send him out on loan to ensure his development continues.

Wednesday could offer him a temporary home, although there will undoubtedly be Championship clubs with an eye on him.

Expert’s view on Pierce Charles

Last month, Wednesday legend Chris Waddle predicted that Charles would be the subject of offers.

He told The Yorkshire Post: “Someone will take a dabble at himHe's proved that he's a very good ‘keeper with his feet, we know that. He's done well, I watched him for Northern Ireland, he had a couple of saves to do but his distribution and his calmness on the ball is very good.

“He’s a modern-day goalkeeper. It was years ago you wanted goalkeepers who would come and catch crosses and be 6ft 5ins. Now, goalkeepers, you want them to play with their feet, especially at a higher level, and that ticks a lot of boxes with Pierce Charles.

“He will have offers. There’s talk of Man City. Man City seem to buy everybody. Whether he'll get in that team, I don't know, with Donnarumma there I don't see it. Whether they're going to offload a goalie, I don't know. The only benefit with Wednesday would be if the bids are successful, they might be able to get him on a year loan.”
