Georgia Stanway has been announced by Arsenal as their latest summer signing. Renee Slegers and the club have entered the window aggressively and are looking to upgrade several positions.

The move comes as quite the coup by Arsenal, with the 27-year-old in the prime years of her career. A European champion with England and a four-time Frauen-Bundesliga champion, Stanway brings plenty of winning experience to the squad.

She ended her career in Germany, having scored 32 goals in 128 games after signing for Bayern from Manchester City, where she made 172 appearances, scoring 59 goals. Stanway will offer Slegers plenty of quality in the Gunners' midfield.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal,” said Georgia on Arsenal’s official website. “This is a massive club that is driving the women’s game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it. I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase.”

There are further links to Ona Battle, Lisa Baum and Selina Cerci this summer. The club went trophyless last season and wish to avoid a repeat.

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley, said: “We’re delighted to bring Georgia to Arsenal. Georgia is among the best midfielders in the world with a proven track record of success at club and international level. She brings strong leadership, character and competitiveness and I know our supporters will enjoy watching her play in red and white.”

Slegers managed to win the Women’s Champions League during her first season in charge. She has said how much Stanway will bring to the team.
