Manchester City and Arsenal make approaches for Chelsea player – Would be controversial

Chelsea‘s Enzo Fernández can continue in the Premier League by joining Manchester City or Arsenal this summer.

The Argentina international believes his time at Chelsea has come to an end and wants to join a new club.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal are options for the midfielder, while Real Madrid are also in the picture.

Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Los Blancos are focusing on the 25-year-old, after Mateus Fernandes favoured Tottenham Hotspur. The Chelsea star is also keen on joining the Spanish giants.

Manchester City and Arsenal behind Real Madrid

Sportitalia journalist Gianluigi Longari took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the latest on the Premier League duo.

He claims Enzo Fernández is pushing to leave Chelsea, but his situation is far from being clarified.

That’s because the former Benfica man is giving preference to Real Madrid, who haven’t made an offer yet. That’s unlikely to happen unless the La Liga side get rid of one of their existing midfielders. Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni are both candidates to leave.

Longari then provides an update on Manchester City and Arsenal and makes it clear it’s his own information.

Both Enzo Maresca’s side and the English champions have made approaches to ask about Fernández. It isn’t clear whether they contacted Chelsea, his camp or both.

The journalist may have gathered this information from Fernández’s representative Javier Pastore, who played for AS Roma during his playing career, and is continually talking up a move.

Marca caught up with Javier Pastore to find out whether Enzo Fernández could join Real Madrid.

When responding to that, the agent confirmed the player’s desire to leave Chelsea this summer.

“Right now, the player is calmly focused on the national team; he’s playing in the World Cup and is very close to reaching the Round of 16… That’s all he’s thinking about, while we’re looking at possibilities for leaving Chelsea, though there’s nothing concrete or confirmed with any club yet,” he said.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would be open to letting the South American join Manchester City or Arsenal.
