**Rayo Vallecano have been left furious with the way Chelsea have conducted themselves as they try to secure the signature of left-back Pep Chavarria, according to journalist Isaac Fouto.**
Speaking on _Cadena Cope_‘s radio programme [_El Partidazo de COPE_](https://x.com/partidazocope/status/2072463600736702661), Fouto revealed that Rayo Vallecano president Martin Presa rejected an offer for the defender, but there have been no formal club-to-club negotiations.
Presa is said to be so unhappy that he is considering reporting Chelsea’s behaviour to FIFA, which suggests he thinks the Blues have tapped up Chavarria.
There is now a chance that Rayo will refuse to let the defender leave for anything less than his release clause, which is €50m (£43m).
Chelsea have made a mess of things
----------------------------------
Chavarria was unlikely to cost that much in the first place, so the London club should have just gone through the proper channels to get this deal over the line.
Presa may well be posturing to some extent, threatening to report the Blues, and referring to the player’s buyout fee, but he has clearly been rubbed up the wrong way by how Xabi Alonso’s side have gone about their business.
Why are the club interested in Chavarria?
-----------------------------------------
Marc Cucurella’s departure for Real Madrid means that Alonso is short of options on the left flank. If he wants to play five at the back as some suspect, Jorrel Hato isn’t really suited for the left wingback role.
New arrival Geovany Quenda would be, but he is only a teenager, so adding a player with more experience to provide competition seems logical.
Alonso was believed to be keen on reuniting with Alejandro Grimaldo, whom he worked with at Bayer Leverkusen, but the Spaniard decided that he wanted to return home. He will be joining Atletico Madrid. Chavarria is very much Plan B.
