Jurgen Klopp could be about to make his long-awaited return to management - something even he wasn’t sure would happen after his departure from Liverpool.
Klopp is the favorite to become Germany’s new manager, with the four-time world champions now looking for a replacement for Julian Nagelsmann. The 38-year-old resigned from his post after his side’s defeat to Paraguay in the last-32 at this year’s World Cup, which leaves Germany still looking for a first knockout win at the tournament since winning it in 2014.
Reports have indicated that Klopp will now enter negotiations with the DFB, having signalled his willingness to succeed Nagelsmann.
Klopp has stayed away from management since leaving Liverpool back in 2024, having spent nearly nine years in charge at Anfield.
He has held the position as Red Bull’s head of global soccer since January 2025, in which he oversees the company’s stable of clubs, which includes RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls.
Klopp has suggested on a number of occasions that he is not interested in a return to management, although he didn’t rule out the possibility of heading back into the dugout upon announcing his departure from Anfield, only dismissing the idea of taking over at one of Liverpool’s rivals.
"I need to find a different purpose as well, I need to have a look for it,” Klopp said back in 2024 on his plans for his next job after leaving Liverpool.

“If you ask me, ‘Will you ever work as a manager again?’ I would say now no. But I don’t know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation.
"What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That’s not possible.
“My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn’t. I couldn’t for a second think about it. There’s no chance.
“This is part of my life, we are part of the family, we feel home here. There’s no chance to do that. But all the rest, will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around.”

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Klopp is currently stationed in the United States, covering the World Cup as a pundit for MagentaTV.
The former Liverpool boss landed himself in hot water earlier in the tournament after he joked that he could take over from Nagelsmann, something which he would go on to apologize for.

With Nagelsmann having now resigned from his post though, Klopp could be set to take over, although he is keeping his cards close to his chest.
"I haven't thought about that yet," he said when asked if he would consider taking the job. "I understand that my name is being mentioned now, but it's not the time to talk about that."
