The German FA has officially announced that Julian Naglesmann has departed his role as the national team manager.
It was widely reported that the former Bayern Munich boss would be leaving, be it by mutual agreement or being sacked from his post.
But the 38-year-old has decided to resign, with the Germany FA stating: “Julian Nagelsmann had already asked the day before in a confidential conversation with the association’s top management to relieve him of his duties.”
Julian Nagelsmann said of his departure from the national team:
“I’ve thought a lot in the past few days since leaving and exchanged ideas with confidants in my personal environment and in the association. The decision was anything but easy for me. My top priority has always been the success of the team.
“After such a bitter disappointment, she deserves the chance for an unencumbered new beginning. I would like to thank my coaching team, the staff and all the people in the association who supported us, especially the players with whom I was able to work in a spirit of trust.”
“A special thank you also goes to the fans. You have carried us, you have trusted us, you have given us energy, even in difficult phases. I am sorry and hurt from the bottom of my heart that we disappointed you and couldn’t give you any more football nights at this World Cup. You would have deserved much more!””
And for Liverpool fans, it looks like Jurgen Klopp will be the next manager.
The association has released a statement confirming they aim to hold talks with the Liverpool legend:
“DFB leadership seeks talks with Klopp. With regard to the replacement of the coach, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jürgen Klopp. He has already signaled his willingness in principle to take over the post.”
It then looks like if everything goes according to plan, the Liverpool legend will be making his return to management imminently, with the official German FA saying so.
