Fabrizio Romano Reveals That“Talks Are Underway”Over£35M Transfer

The agents of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah are discussing personal terms with Inter Milan, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Como were initially seen as favourites for the 26-year-old’s signature, but Romano claims that the Serie A champions have now entered the battle:

“Trevoh Chalobah[‘s] agents are in Milano, talks underway with Inter over personal terms. Como have been in the race for weeks, but Inter are on it as well, as revealed in June. Chalobah wants to play in Italy.”

It does appear as if the centre-back is set to leave Stamford Bridge, having spent his entire career with the Blues after joining the academy at the age of 8.

Chelsea have set their asking price for the defender

The Athletic have reported that Xabi Alonso’s side will demand around £35m for the England international. Como have not been able to match the valuation, so it remains to be seen if Inter will make a satisfactory offer.

Chalobah has never sought to leave the club up until now, having even managed to win back his place in the first-team squad a couple of seasons ago after being frozen out.

However, it seems he has finally decided that a departure from Stamford Bridge is the right move for him, with a switch to Italy on the cards.

Chalobah’s replacement has already been identified

Maxence Lacroix is the player that Alonso and the recruitment team have earmarked to strengthen the centre of defence.

Discussions have been held with the Frenchman’s club, Crystal Palace, and it is believed that Chalobah was one of 4 defenders offered up in part-exchange.

However, Palace are not thought to be interested in a swap deal. They have made Toulouse’s Charlie Cresswell their main target to replace Lacroix.

It means Chelsea will likely have to stump up the cash if they want to bring in the 26-year-old.
