Bradley Barcola ‘evasive’ on transfer question: Winger is ‘top of Liverpool’s list’

Liverpool winger target Bradley Barcola insists he “doesn’t know yet” whether he will leave Paris Saint-Germain, but there is a growing sense he will move.

Barcola spoke as part of a press conference ahead of France’s last-16 clash with Paraguay at the World Cup, with the 23-year-old quizzed on his future.

“Right now, I’m really focused on the World Cup,” he told reporters including RMC Sport‘s Nicolas Pelletier, who described Barcola as “evasive” on the topic.

“As for what will happen afterwards, honestly, I don’t know yet.”

The winger, who is a natural left-sider but can also play on the right, is considered Liverpool’s next high-profile target after Yan Diomande made clear his preference to join PSG.

Diomande’s expected switch to Paris could in fact free Barcola up to leave the Parc des Princes, though The Athletic report that he is now valued at upwards of £116 million.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Barcola is now at the “top of [Liverpool’s] list” when it comes to strengthen their attack.

“Barcola is always on Liverpool’s list, I always told you ‘don’t forget Barcola’ and now here we are,” he said on YouTube.

“Barcola is a serious target for Liverpool, but obviously it depends financially what they can do in order to reach an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.”

PSG’s price tag may not deter Liverpool, who were prepared to pay a similar amount to bring Diomande to Anfield and last summer broke their transfer record twice for Florian Wirtz (£116m) and Alexander Isak (£125m).

Liverpool open to offers for Cody Gakpo

A move could be financed by further sales, too, with Romano claiming Tottenham‘s interest in Cody Gakpo as a situation to “keep an eye on.”

Liverpool have set an informal valuation of over £60 million for their No. 18, though it is certainly not guaranteed that he leaves Merseyside this summer.

A study by The Athletic earlier this week in tandem with SkillCorner deemed Barcola as a 97.7 percent match for Gakpo in terms of profile and output and a 99.6 percent match with Luis Diaz.

Clearly, any deal for Barcola would need to wait until after the World Cup, with the Frenchman insisting his full focus is on securing silverware in Didier Deschamps’ final tournament as manager.

France are among the favourites to win the World Cup and demolished Sweden with a 3-0 win in the first knockout stage.

Barcola scored in that victory to bring his tally to two goals and an assist in four games so far – averaging a goal involvement every 69.3 minutes.
