Real Madrid have released a direct statement responding to rumours linking them with Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez. The Spanish club described the reports as false, stating that they have no intention of signing the Argentine star.
Multiple reports have claimed that Los Blancos were looking to sign Fernandez. The speculations gained more traction following Chelsea's failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
However, in a statement on their website on Friday, July 3, Real Madrid debunked the claims.
"In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation," the statement reads.
"Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely known, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.
"Precisely because of the respect that an entity like Chelsea FC deserves and because of the principles of institutional loyalty that have always governed the actions of Real Madrid, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny speculations that are unfounded and do not correspond to reality," it continued.
"Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved," they concluded.
In April, Fernandez fueled rumours of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu when he expressed his desire to play in Madrid during an interview. His comments saw him serve a two-match suspension under former manager Liam Rosenoir.
Fernandez joined Chelsea in 2023 from Benfica for a reported then-British record fee of £107 million. He has registered 31 goals and 30 assists in 169 games for the Stamford Bridge side.
What deals have Chelsea and Real Madrid completed in the 2026 summer transfer window?
Despite the 2026 FIFA World Cup taking the limelight, clubs have been active in the transfer market, including Chelsea and Real Madrid. The Blues recently signed Italian right-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta, with the 21-year-old penning a six-year deal.
Los Blancos, meanwhile, have signed Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth €55 million. They have also brought in Ibrahima Konate and Bernando Silva on free transfers from Liverpool and Manchetser City, respectively.
Additionally, both clubs have appointed new managers for the 2026-27 campaign. The Blues replaced Liam Rosenior with Xabi Alonso, while Madrid have brought back Jose Mourinho after parting ways with Alvaro Arbeloa.
