Marcus Rashford at Manchester United was one of those players you just could not come to a conclusion about. Rashford’s time at Old Trafford was filled with extremities. It was either extremely exciting or extremely disappointing. After coming up the ranks through Carrington, Rashford had a sensational first few seasons as a first-team player.
However, the Englishman’s performances slowly dipped. His work-rate was questioned and there was a glaring inconsistency in his football. So the 28-year-old inevitably left the club on loan. Spanish giants Barcelona secured the loan deal.
In his sole season at Spain, Rashford managed to churn out stupendous numbers for Barcelona. As if a switch was turned on, the forward was consistently involved in goals whenever he received an opportunity. The Englishman played close to 50 games for the Catalans.

He managed to score 14 goals and assisted 11 times. Those are massively improved numbers from the latter part of his Man Utd days. Now that his loan spell at Barcelona has ended, questions begin to arise regarding Rashford’s future. Multiple reports linking him to clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich and even a return to Man Utd have been making the rounds. However, former Man Utd player Teddy Sheringham has talked about how Rashford could betray Man Utd through a move to rivals Liverpool.
Rashford to Liverpool? Sheringham explains
Manchester United icon and legend Teddy Sheringham has recently talked about the possibility of Marcus Rashford heading to Anfield in a sensational transfer.
“Marcus Rashford to Liverpool would feel like the ultimate betrayal to Manchester United fans but what if Manchester United don’t want him? Then as a player you’ve got to do what’s best for you,” Sheringham said.
Furthermore, the former player also talked about how Manchester United should explore the possibility of bringing Rashford back. He talked about how a successful return to Old Trafford for the Englishman could solve everything.
“Manchester United should be in control of the Marcus Rashford situation, not Marcus Rashford. He is still a Manchester United player. United can try and manipulate the situation to get the best outcome for what they need. He’s a United player so why not utilise that situation to get that extra forward back in the squad that Michael Carrick needs?,”Sheringham added.
What does this mean for Liverpool?
The first aspect that will matter the most in any Marcus Rashford transfer will be the financial aspect. The Englishman is right now under a £325,000 per week contract at Manchester United. That is a massive hurdle for any club to first get through. So similarly, Liverpool would also be required to provide Rashford a financially heavy contract. Or the 28-year-old could take a significant pay-cut.
Moving on, when it comes to the squad aspect, Rashford’s arrival could ease problems at Liverpool. The Reds primarily struggled to present an attacking threat last season. Consequently, they finished fifth in the Premier League. A rejuvenated Rashford could add pace and attacking threat to that Liverpool frontline.
Although Sheringham’s suggestion of Rashford to Liverpool sounds like a possibility, it is heavily unlikely. Let’s be real, such an established Man Utd star moving to Anfield will create massive uproar from both the fanbases. It will be interesting to see where the forward ends up this summer.
