Stockport County are still licking their wounds after missing out on a place in the EFL Championship at the end of the 2025–26 campaign.

County finished 3rd in League One and reached the play-off final, only to suffer a brutal 4-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at Wembley on May 24, 2026, extending the club’s wait for second-tier football.

Having last been promoted at the end of the 2023–24 season as League Two champions, Stockport will once again line up in League One next term.

But it seems that they are keeping up their youth recruitment despite the disappointment of the promotion hunt

Former Liverpool midfielder Roman Dimine confirmed earlier this year that his “Liverpool journey has come to an end” after being released by the club.

The academy prospect used Instagram to reveal his departure, writing that he had been let go and insisting the setback was “only the beginning” as he vowed to come back stronger in the next chapter of his career.

Hugo Ekitike actually commented on his departure, writing: “head up”

But Dimine’s new chapter has now arrived at Edgeley Park, with the u12 talent announcing he has signed a two-year contract with Stockport County in a post featuring him in full County training gear.

“Signed a 2-year contract at Stockport County. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity. Ready to work hard, keep learning, and become the best version of myself. Excited for what’s ahead,” Dimine wrote to his followers as messages of support poured in from friends and fans.

For Liverpool supporters, Dimine’s move will be one to quietly track from afar, especially after the youngster showed maturity in how he handled his exit

With so many academy-to-first team stories, Dimine represents the other side of the story: a prospect starting again in League One, determined to prove that being released is not the end, but the launchpad for a new opportunity with an ambitious club.
