Crystal Palace enter picture for Midtjylland star – Arsenal remain favourites for ‘the next Alexis Sánchez’

Crystal Palace have emerged as the latest Premier League club to be linked with Darío Osorio.

Fresh reports from Chile continue to suggest England remains the most likely destination for the Midtjylland winger… Despite renewed interest from Portugal.

The 22-year-old has been on the radar of several English clubs for months. Liverpool have previously been credited with making an offer. Meanwhile, Manchester United, Leeds, Bournemouth, Everton and Fulham have all been linked at different stages.

Now, according to AS Chile, Crystal Palace have joined that list. This adds another Premier League side to the growing number of clubs credited with an interest in the Chile international.

The report arrives alongside fresh claims that Osorio’s departure from Midtjylland is viewed as increasingly inevitable. This is despite the Danish club extending his contract until 2030 earlier this year.

Benfica move revived by former rival

The main development outside England is the return of Benfica. According to Chilean outlet ADN Deportes, Benfica have placed Osorio on a reduced shortlist of transfer targets. This follows a direct request from new manager Marco Silva.

The Portuguese coach is said to have admired the winger during his time at Fulham and has now revived that interest after taking charge in Lisbon.

The report adds that a deal could be worth between €12m (£10.3m) and €15m (£12.9m). However, Midtjylland are yet to publicly set an asking price.

Previous reports from Chile have suggested the Danish side ultimately hope to command an even higher fee as they attempt to break their own transfer record.

Premier League still seen as favourite

Despite Benfica’s renewed interest, the latest reporting continues to point towards England.

Last month, as relayed by ADN Deportes, Midtjylland sporting director Kristian Kjaer confirmed that Arsenal remained among the clubs following Osorio closely. He also acknowledged previous interest from Bournemouth and other Premier League sides.

“We know Arsenal have been interested in Osorio, but we also know other Premier League clubs have been the same,” Kjaer said.

He also made it clear why he believes the winger would suit English football.

“In my opinion, the Premier League suits him very well because he has a very hard-working mentality.”

“His defensive transitions are incredible, his top speed is incredible. He’s a left-footed right winger who can go to either side of his direct opponent. He has everything. In Chile, he’s considered the next Alexis Sánchez. I think he can make a difference in the Premier League.”

Those comments have taken on added significance now that Crystal Palace have entered the conversation. While Benfica represent a credible alternative under Marco Silva, the weight of interest still appears to be coming from England, with Premier League clubs continuing to dominate the discussion around Osorio’s next move.
