Jurgen Klopp has broken his silence surrounding a move for the Germany national team job, insisting that he is interested in the role after Julian Nagelsmann's exit.

The former Liverpool head coach has been heavily linked with the position for his country, in what would be a return to management for the first time in two years.

It follows Germany's disappointing World Cup campaign, where defeat to Paraguay in the round of 32 has ultimately cost Nagelsmann his position.

Given Klopp is out of management following his exit from Anfield, it seemed a natural fit for him to take charge of the national team moving forward, with the role featuring less day-to-day management.

While rumors have persisted over a possible move for the job, the 59-year-old has spoken out for the first time about his intention of taking the role.

He told Magenta TV: "Yes, I can confirm the talks. Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB are looking for a successor. And they’re talking to me.”

The move is far from done, as he must be released from his contract with the Red Bull group, where he is the Head of Global Soccer, with a DFB clause existing in the deal that will allow him to leave early.

On what is left to come, Klopp added: "Time. I’m under contract with Red Bull. I’ve said I’m interested in the talks. They will be intensive because this isn’t only about Julian Nagelsmann.

“I also have to speak with Oliver Mintzlaff. He’s my employer. We’ve already touched on a few things. I assume he won’t stand in the way. I’ve been there for 19 months. It was an intense time.”

While there is still work to be done to seal the contract, Klopp has certainly suggested that talks will accelerate in the near future that will likely end with him being the new national team head coach.

It would be a relatively sharp return to management, though it doesn't come with the same intense schedule that is often true of managing a domestic team.

Should he take over, Klopp's first game is set to be a UEFA Nations League tie with the Netherlands, where he could reunite with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

All focus is likely to switch towards qualification for the European Championships in 2028, which is being hosted in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

There will be some hope that Germany can rediscover what made them previous world champions, which has been lacking in recent years.
