Jurgen Klopp confirms talks to become new Germany manager

Jurgen Klopp has remained one of football’s most talked-about managers since bringing his legendary Liverpool reign to an end, with speculation over his next move refusing to disappear despite his transition into a role away from the dugout.

The former Reds boss took up the position of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull after leaving Anfield in 2024, insisting at the time that he needed a break from the relentless demands of management.

However, the recent departure of Julian Nagelsmann as Germany head coach has quickly changed the conversation.

Whilst speaking to MagentaTV, Klopp has now confirmed that he is in talks to become Germany’s next manager, admitting discussions with the German Football Association have accelerated following Nagelsmann’s exit.

Klopp said: “Yes, I can confirm the talks. Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB are looking for a successor. And they’re talking to me.”

While Klopp made it clear that he is interested in the position, he revealed there are still important conversations to be had with Red Bull before any agreement can be reached, with the German confirminng there is one thing he requires above anything else.

“Time. I’m under contract with Red Bull. I’ve said I’m interested in the talks. They will be intensive becuase this isn’t only about Julian Nagelsmann.”

The 59-year-old also suggested that he does not expect Red Bull to prevent him from accepting the role, explaining that he will soon speak to chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff about the situation.

“I also have to speak with Oliver Mintzlaff. He’s my employer. We’ve already touched on a few things. I assume he won’t stand in the way. I’ve been there for 19 months. It was an intense time.”

Klopp enjoyed immense success during his time at Liverpool, restoring the club to the summit of English and European football.

His departure marked the end of one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.

Having previously maintained that he needed time away from management, Klopp admitted the Germany opportunity has reignited his desire to coach.

“I’m ready. Once the talks begin, your mind starts racing. We have to change things fundamentally.”

If the negotiations progress as expected, Jurgen Klopp could soon take charge of his national team for the first time, bringing an end to months of speculation over when he could make his return to the touchline.
