Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he is in talks to become the next manager of Germany’s national side, insisting he is “more than recharged” after leaving Liverpool two years ago.
When announcing his shock Liverpool exit in January 2024, Klopp said his decision came as he was “running out of energy,” leading him to distance himself from any management job.
His agent Marc Kosicke has been consistently shutting down reports linking him to various clubs in the years since, with Klopp content with his work as head of soccer at Red Bull.
But Germany’s early exit from the World Cup and the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann led the DFB to open talks with Klopp, who says he is now ready to step back into management.
Speaking on Magenta TV, via ESPN, Klopp confirmed negotiations are underway: “Yes, I can confirm the talks.

“Yes, Julian resigned, and the DFB is working on a succession plan and over the course of these deliberations, they have reached out to me.
“When I stopped at Liverpool, I lacked the energy for even one more year with the club, and I’m more than recharged now. I’m ready.”
The 59-year-old conceded even now the timing is not perfect due to his current role at Red Bull, but previous reports from Sky Germany state Klopp had an exit clause if Germany came calling.
“The timing, even now, is not perfect because I am currently under contract with Red Bull, but it is still better than it has ever been,” Klopp said.

“The situation is such that I have an existing contract with Red Bull. As a person, I am usually very happy to keep contracts.
“But I have also said that I am very interested in the discussions. Those conversations will have to happen, and they will have to be intensive talks because, of course, the problems Germany were experiencing were not due to Julian Nagelsmann.
“Julian Nagelsmann is an extraordinary coach, and he will have the opportunity to prove that many times in his coaching career.”
From a Liverpool perspective, Florian Wirtz would stand to benefit from Klopp’s appointment, while the former Reds boss would also be expected to champion his usual stance on player welfare.
